Camrie's Cornbread

Camrie's Cornbread

In Junior High Camrie made cornbread but realized just before she put it into the oven that she only added a portion of the required sugar. Thinking quickly she decided to sprinkle brown sugar across the top to make up for it. It's now a family favorite- but we still add the required sugar.

3/4 cup cornmeal
1 1/4 cup milk
1 cup flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup melted margarine

1. Mix and set aside cornmeal and milk (5 minutes)

2. Mix together dry ingredients.

3. Add egg and melted butter to cornmeal and milk mixture.

4. Add liquid to dry- stir only until combined.

5. Pour into greased and floured 9" square pan.

6. Sprinkle top with brown sugar.

7. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
